#$ Somebody Killed His Editor

Crack cocaine has nothing on Josh's novels. I've been on a "Josh jag" for a couple of weeks now and still cannot get enough. It makes no difference--short in length, long, or in between--they are mesmerizing. Now that I have that out of the way....

It would appear that this novel is the first in another series. If the rest are half as engaging as this one, he will have achieved quite a goal. This book is about Christopher Holmes, a one time successful writer of British cozys, who has been talked into attending a writer's conference by his agent so that he can pitch the idea for a new series to the editor who published his previous novels. In the process of doing this, to say that chaos ensues is quite an understatement. The conference is made up of numerous "writers" and wannabes. Each is fleshed out admirably. What amazes me is how easy Mr. Lanyon continually makes all this look. This is not "great writing", by any means, but the packaging and story telling are virtually flawless. My concern is that this kind of fast, easy reading can spoil me for other writers/books that might not necessarily grab me in the first couple of paragraphs. Keep up the great work!
