I have been a fan of Eric Arvin since his first book which I came upon by accident. I have watched his writing mature and seen his humor become more engaging. He brings it all together in his new book, "Simple Men" and I could not be happier for him. "Simple Men" is a simple story filled with colorful characters. Chip and Foster are our main characters and I could not help fall in love with them. Chip Arnold is a football coach at a small college and he feels that his life is somewhat boring. He has friends and he and his team have a good relationship. He courts the beauties and from our point of view he should be very happy. However, he feels no passion in his life. Then a new chaplain by the name of Foster Lewis comes to the college and it is love at almost first sight.

There are other great characters--Katie, the female's cross country coach, Wendell Hall, the president of the school who is a teddy bear of a guy and Brad and Jason, two football players who feel that it is there job to see to it that everything is a major issue.

Arvin is a master of description and he also draws great characters. His use of the English language shows his own wit. The book is a fun read (one that you can breeze through without any kind of thought necessary) but it is also very, very sweet (as in most cases when two people fall in love). I totally recommend this book because of its charm and intelligence and because it is one of those books that are just fun reads. I probably smiled the entire time I read---and that's a good thing.
